Phone or text notifications

Patrons can opt to use phone or text notifications through Shoutbomb, but not both. To help patrons sign up, please see the documents below. Staff can sign patrons up through Sierra or patrons can opt-in through their online account in the online catalog.

Frequently asked questions about Shoutbomb notifications

Will patrons be charged for this service?

The library doesn’t charge a fee for this service, but the cell phone plan’s regular text messaging rates still apply. Patrons should check with their cell phone service provider to see the cost of text messages in their service plan.

When will patrons receive texts?

Texts will be sent only when activity on your account triggers a message and will usually arrive around 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

What kinds of messages are available with the Shoutbomb text service?

Hold messages

hl – Request a list of your hold items currently ready for pickup.
hold – Toggles hold notices on or off. (This option is automatically turned on when you register.)

Renewal messages

ra – Request to renew all eligible items.
renew – Toggle notification on or off for 2-day due date warnings. (This option is automatically turned on when you register.)

Overdue messages

oa – Request to renew all overdue items.
overdue– Toggle notification on or off. (This option is automatically turned on when you register.)

What kinds of messages are available with the Shoutbomb voice service?

Hold messages when items are available for pickup.

Renewal messages when items are due for renewal.

Overdue messages when items are overdue.
